STROLLING IN NATURE

It’s so weird how we’re almost always around it, yet most of us don’t even have the time to see what it actually has to offer.

For me, being able to go on a walk among the trees, observing the changing hues of the evening sky, being able to notice a few stars when I look up, is indeed, rewarding. There’s so much more I’m yet to see, it is comforting in a way.

The warmth of an unexplored territory is, strangely, homely and all my confusions decide to take a break. The environment makes it okay for me to look back at all the moments that I continue to cherish. Certain fragrances remind me of the sad memories along the way, but these are the things that’ve become a part of ‘my story’. The clouds tell me to slow down, the rain makes me believe that with falling, come endless chances of getting back up. The trees advise me to remain still. The ocean waves remind me of the obstacles life will throw at me, just like the pandemic. But what I need to do is breathe (for now with the mask on, please).

And then I sit, thinking about how the nature’s poets that I may have ridiculed in the past for being overly romantic, were right about this feeling - the “bliss of solitude”.
A FABULOUS FRIDAY

Malavika Jayaram
Black and white look (frame within a frame) "This is an original look inspired by an idea to bring life to the monochromatic rather than enforce the stereotype of being dull and flat"
Yellow, Green & Blue look "This look is purely experimental as I simply played with colours and blue graphic liner."
Black look "This look was inspired by Snakes and Ladders, a photo series shot by James Deacon. To me, it depicts a raw understanding of beauty which to some could be interpreted as horror"
Blue ears look "There is a lot of toxic energy in this world. This look signifies me not having a care for it through the blue coloured ears and the overpowering tinge of red lighting. This look was inspired by the makeup artist Jezz Hill."
Akashlina Chandra
The first look was inspired by the character Emily from the musical Corpse Bride. Her character always intrigued me and I really wanted to transform myself into her for this Halloween. Also, I wanted to add a desi twist to it, hence the Indian jewelry. I had so much fun creating this look with ALL makeup products.
The second look was inspired by life and death. The black skull on the left represents death and the right colourful butterfly represents life. It’s an endless process that all living creatures are bound to be a part of. I came across this look first on @beautybymols on Instagram and immediately wanted to recreate it!

Parth Mistry
This look was inspired from the dc villain the joker's Chelsea smile, and since it is a Halloween season , I made it extra spooky by sewing up the prosthetic skin with a thread.

Dipika Jeram
"I created this look for Halloween, I was inspired by two-three pictures and assembled the ideas that I like in one look, I enjoyed doing this so much because it was pretty challenging."

Priyanka Periwal
"A super glam look on a gloomy quarantine day to make my empty soul feel full"
"I was feeling blue one day, so I figured I’d let everyone know! But for real, it was a very random look that I practiced 4 times and ended up finishing my white liquid liner. It was a dark day for me!"
"I was having a bleak day, decided to make it a little colorful ❤"
Jaanvi Agarwal
Rainbow look was inspired by a look my friend drew for me on Snapchat
Heart & Glasses was in collaboration with an eyewear brand that wanted to spread a message about mental health and kindness. The hearts represented the idea of spreading love and being kind, as well as accepting people for who they are.
The purple look was inspired by a song 'Befikar' which is about the feelings of love and butterflies. I tried to encapsulate that feeling into a makeup look.

In this situation of a pandemic where everything seems to fall apart, There is still a ray of hope. So I did this makeup look inspired by the thought of being positive and looking at the futuristic aspects of life.
Yashasvi Modani
With Halloween around the corner, I tried to recreate the nun's look from the movie The Nun. The spooky Cleopatra's look was inspired by Thuy Le.

Shrusti Oswal
The basic idea behind this look was: Embracing our tears. We often consider crying as a sign of "weakness" and many times end up suppressing the tears. Very often people say that "you look the most beautiful when you smile, so don't cry." By doing this look I wanted to show tears can be beautiful too. Crying isn't a weakness but an outlet to let your emotions out.
Home away
from home

Home away from home, where friends become family and family becomes your solace.
Where we learn to grow up, we learn to be independent, we learn to choose from right and wrong, and god, don’t we make the wrong choices!
We learn to be happy in being alone and sometimes we can get sad even though we’re surrounded by people.
We get confused, we get upset, we get frustrated but we also learn to find answers on our own, we learn to be okay on our own and we learn to relax on our own.
We learn to be our own people and we learn that it is okay to ask for help. And the place that allows all of this to happen, is our home away from home.
Anvesha Khillar
"My second home. Rizvi is a place where I met people who turned into friends and gradually into my family away from home. A place where we all just spend more time in our friends' apartments than ours. The 3rd floor became a hangout point with an astonishing view. Chilling on the slides looking up at the moon. In 2 weeks everyone knew everyone."
Devang Mahulkar
"The city view at night, the quiet and breezy Sunday afternoons on the third floor, and petting the stray cat while waiting for the bus to college are a few of the many things I miss about that place."

"Facetime shoots have shown so much promise that I truly believe they are likely to have a lasting impact on photography, fashion and otherwise, even after the pandemic. it’s also cost-effective for photographers and clients and has a negligible ecological footprint, unlike many fashion shoots that take place in exotic locations with exorbitant budgets. Sounds like a trend I could get behind.
Reuben Janet
with stylists Ritika Sachdeva and Samya Shriti
"I decided to do a facetime photoshoot where I bring in the stylists as well, so basically it was a three-man job. Me, the model and the stylist connect on a zoom call together and we instruct the models on how to chose and where to place the camera. I think its a very creative idea but I did find certain things difficult like explaining the models on how to pose. I generally experiment a lot with angles on the spot, which wasn’t possible for me and that’s a tiny drawback. At one point it feels like your work lacks a certain personal touch when you aren’t physically present, but in spite of it all I really enjoyed working together with everyone and trying out this new trend."
Sarah Zia
with Kudrat Anand and Chandan Paramesh
"For the photos with Kudrat, None of us had faith in Facetime series actually working out mainly due to quality but this shoot surpassed all our expectations and then some! Kudrat styled the photos with the red flowers and Chandan helped in editing them. The photos Chandan and I shot together turned out great too, mainly since Chandan always has very interesting concepts. We definitely made a truce with the wild! All the styling was his, I just posed and shot. But all in all, it was great doing this photoshoot together."
Saksham Bharti
"We really had fun doing this photo shoot. I feel like you really need coordination for this but more importantly, you also need a good internet connection. Other than that, I think you can be really creative with this new trend and its a great way for photographers to keep themselves busy and not let the current circumstances hold them back from experimenting with new ideas."
The spirit of
the rains

Rain. Pitter patter. On tin, by the car window,
On the broken concrete, in small puddles of joy; seeping into the soil, with dewy droplets on lush green leaves.
Do you remember the first time you took shelter from this beautiful phenomenon?
The child in us has always embraced these heavenly showers.
Once it’s here, it surrounds you. Demands to be experienced.
Even the calm before the storm demands to be felt.
The cold breeze says there’s more to come.
The aftermath has petrichor wafting through the air, and it always manages to take you elsewhere.
It’s different everywhere you go, has its own language with the land.
In places of isolation, in crowded cities, filling up all the nooks and crannies,
The teardrops that touch, every single earthling, making its mark,
All of that, whilst clouds thunder, growling and panting, with a dash of spark.
We all have nostalgia written in our eyes, caught in the rain, reminiscing of past times.
So many memories attached to it, some gloomy, some nostalgic, some tranquil –
Such is the Spirit of Rain.
